October Cherries

The October Cherries were a recording phenomena. Their band leader Jay Shotam and brother manager Bal established the worlds first asian english independant recording label back in the sixties . The October Cherries managed to secure 2 recording contracts with EMI Records , one in Asia and the other in Europe.
The academic equivilant to this is being invited to Harvard University twice in a row. Mr. Baskar Menon the president of Capitol Records USA wanted the band to shift base to the USA. This request was made in a telex which was not conveyed to the band and was hushed by EMI Europe as they had already embarked on plans for the October Cherries .
In order to stave off the onslaught of the pandemic record piracy situation both on vynil and cassete tapes, the band had to change its name several times over to stay relevant ( Piracy remains to this day in the form of free downloads and file sharing ). Thus October Cherries recorded under the other names of Jade and Pepper , Truck , Funkgus , Surfers and Giggles , for more information please got to www.octobercherries.com.
Recently the Funkgus first album and the Truck album were auctioned on eBay at record breaking prices of more than 500 USD.
